I know a few places that have always put a drop of motor oil on the lugs - these are Porsche shops.

Best way to make sure your lugs are tight is with a very large wrench and an even bigger breaker bar. They should be so tight you can hang on the end of the bar. When you hear that loud "snap" it's tight.

Use antiseaze on the lugs. Optimoly is great but any antiseaze is fine.

Do not overtorque, unless you want to be replacing parts.

I always use antisieze, and torque to 96 lb/ft, not a problem yet.
Perhaps they may be slightly over-torqued due to the anti-sieze, but they also probably determined the reccomended torque with a safety margin. I know a lot of people that don't use a torque wrench for their lug nuts...

Physics.

Assuming a 1 foot long breaker bar, if you weigh 100 pounds, standing on the end will yeild approx 100 ft/lbs of torque. 18" bar, same weight, 150ft/lbs. And so forth.

Easy way, buy a torque wrench. Mine is one of my often used tools, good one is worth the cost. Craftsmen makes nice ones still, mines prolly older than you or campeck and its doing good

Buy a torque wrench, you can't trust Physics!
