Question clutch preload spring question

i was adjusting the freeplay and checking the preload spring and noticed that the rod at the preload spring seat where it bears against the bracket has a through hole at the end and nothing was there. I assumed there is a pin that goes there and put a cotter pin in.

is this correct? i notice as you depress the clutch pedal the spring expands and the rod rocks downward and moves out through the bracket - the cotter pin now stops the movement of the rod at a certain point and the spring continues to expand as the rod rocks downward. the pedal stops it movement at some point - without the pin, you can depress the pedal a little further.

the pin is now a stop for the overall movement of the plunger in the master cylinder - do i need to verify the piston movement on the slave cylinder now - clutch operation feels fine when driving.
