PPI! By someone who knows these cars. If it was stolen and sat "missing" in a warehouse for 10 years, then there is a police report somewhere and someone's insurance co. paid out a claim on it. You should be able to verify this story.

Wouldn't a "theft recovery" car have that noted on its title? Wasn't there a story in the last year in Pano or Excellence about a guy who got a call from the police who found his 356, that was stolen several years earlier, sitting in a warehouse that the raided?

If the major service was last done in 1999, it is overdue to have it done again. What HAS been done is very important because cars don't age well without some use, rubber seals, hoses and bushings dry out, electrical parts and conections corrode. I'd probably pay more for a 100k mile car in the same basic condition.
Among the things you've left out is your (rough) location, 944/951 prices vary wildly from one region to the next. You couldn't buy a decent 944 NA in my area for what some on this board have paid for very nice 951s.

For that money I'd look for a 968 cabriolet - okay it might be more than $12K, but not THAT much more. . .

Update on 944 Turbo purchase. The car checked out fine w/ my mechanic, nothing other than front brake rotors and pads. It is a 1988 Turbo (not the S model) and I really believe it has 22k original miles. There is however a salvage history from carfax due to theft. Knowing this and the lack of documentation prior to the theft, I cannot justify buying the car for $13,000 which is the lowest the seller will go. If I knew that I would keep the car 3 or 4 years then I wouldn't worry about it. But I know my history of buying and selling cars and I will be ready for a change in a year.

Sounds like a good call. Sometimes spending a lot of $$$ for a low mileage car is not a very good deal.

A shady carfax report will make it harder to sell anyway, as that guy is prolly finding out.

I think a 951 would last anyone more than a year...
