Default The tow hook thread...

In this thread a tow hook discusison started:

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...&page=15&pp=15

Now since I don't want to destroy that thread I am creating a new one wondering what the differences are?

The pics from what I think is the French turbo Cup cars have the tow hook like this:

https://rennlist.com/forums/attachme...id=30105&stc=1

My turbo Cup car has this kind fo tow hook, IIRC my 944S2 had it's rear tow hook positioned in the same place as the whit cup car linked above.

Can anyone answer to the question of which is the new and late design?

Since the history of my car does not involve seem to have been infested by any accidents and the car shows no igns of repairs I am wondering this..

It may be the model year thing. Not certain. This is a german (I think) cup car from 86. To confuse matters, looks like he has the one you have, plus the newer/different on on the other side...........

Here is an aftermarket option on rear tow hooks available, I'll probably pick this up since my car will be seeing lots of track time!

While those are cool, they aren't tow hooks, they are tie downs. The tow hook needs to be more outboard and visible.

Good info... do they prove useless as towing hooks? So their purpose is when the car gets towed? which isn't a foreign concept to the 944 series cars. What kind of tow hook options are there for non cup turbo cars with owners who dont think weldiing something to their car as a first welding experience is a good idea... though could be cause for a good laugh... for you guys.

EDIT: lol, I just noticed your signature with the tow hook line... thought it necassary to mention to you that I enjoyed that...

I think that is Peter "Puppan" Erikssons car, it's Swedish registered and I think It was imported on the same time as mine along with another red cup car. He sold the Cup engine in it and installed a 3-litre monster.. Check out www.puppan.se for more info.

Btw, here's a collage of the other Swedish car imported on the same time. My car is very similar except for the Fuchs being yellow instead:

They really are more for tie down purposes.

For US-Spec cars, you have the tow eye to screw in the front, and the big honkin' US bumper in the rear. Both of these can be used to pull the car out of a tight spot, but for actual "towing" you need to flatbed it (hence the need for the tie-downs).

For the euro cars, they have the same tow eye for the front, but not the rear bumper. It's fiberglass. So, they have a screw in eye, or in the case of those cup cars I mentioned, a tow bracket permanently attached at the bumper shock mount.

(LOL, glad someone finally noticed my little quote )

Thanks for the link! I've checked out Puppan's car, this one does look different, here is another few shots. What do you think? I think the owner is named "Andreas".
