Fuel Pump Failure or... ?
Hi Everyone,
My car was leaking coolant like a sieve from the water pump, so i decided hey time for a replacement. As i was running it for the last time, the idle was loping very badly and getting worse and worse. Eventually, it died. I let it be dead and replaced the waterpump. Now that it's back together, it will start for 2-4 seconds, like it really wants to, and then it dies. It has fuel, and the AFM is all plugged in. I've checked the intake system over and over.. I replaced the fuel filter because i don't think that had ever been done, but that wasn't the problem. I'm going home this weekend (4 hour trip) and I want to get the po'sh running by the time I leave. Suggestions?
Thanks y'all
Ian

Long list of possibilities here.
1) Fuel pressure regulator
2) DME relay (wiggle and tap it...maybe that'll work)
3) Fuel pressure damper
Check the fuel pump by unplugging the fuel lines and turning the ignition on. You should see fuel coming out of there. Be real careful. Fuel is dangerous. If no fuel comes out...its dead.

This sounds just like the problem I had with the 84 that I put together for my nephew. I could keep it running if I kept it up around 2.5k on the tach. It also would get really bad if the cooling fans kicked on. Replaced the dme temp sensor, dme, and dme relay. No change. Found that the ground was loose on the block coming from the battery. Cleaned and tighten it. Also the ground for the dme was really nasty looking. Cleaned and tighten, car runs great !!!!!
