Default Will This Part Fit My Car... OK all you part # Guru's, fire up your PET CD's!

I'm seriously considering purchashing from 9fitty1 (Derek - the guy parting out the 88 turbo) the passenger side air bag cover. Mine has a small fist size dent in it from the previous owner. Just the air bag cover, not the whole dash. It actually has a metal backing plate and that is actually what is dented.

Here is the question... Derek's car is an '88 turbo (non S). Will the cover fit my car ('89 turbo)??? I'm assuming it would, but you know what happens when you assume!!!

I've thought about fixing this for a long time and now have an opportunity that I can't pass up (it appears). Most people don't even notice, but it's one of those little flaws that you always say "If I ever find a good cheap used cover... you know the rest of the story"

Anybody ever done this before?

Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Oh and here is a picture of the cover Derek is qouting me!

It'll fit. Just swap one assembly for another. Don't try to take the front off. Bad things will happen.
It's not hard to do. Don't forget to disconnect the battery for at least 30 minutes beforehand.

EDIT: PET lists the part# for 88 & 89 as: 944 552 385 00
It also just calls it a 'cover'. It seemed to me like the bag and cover was one assembly but I could be wrong.

To make sure the airbag doesnt go off in his face. The 30 min is just to be safe.

I'm assuing to let any electricity discharge from the system. Those airbags are deployed by an electrical signal. Having the airbag deploy with your face right against it would most likely kill you. They come out extremely fast, and are designed to cradel your head by the time your body accelerates foward in an accident. If you actually get hit by the airbag as it is coming out, it can hurt you very badly.
This is why some choose not to bother with them... I see their point!

EDIT: Heh, what ^ said 2 minutes earlier.

The firing capacitator can still hold a charge even if the battery is diconnected. 30-minutes should be plenty of time for it to fully discharge. Prevents any explosions of the dashboard...

Actually, the manual says 20 minutes but I'd rather err on the safe side.
