Trans catastrophe
blew out second gear tore it down and ouch! I've got an extra 84 44 gear box but I think I'm gonna run into some issues changing it over. I'm gona if I can use the 944 ring and pinion as they are lower and will give me a little extra grunt down low. I don't mind losing a few MPH up top.

A 944 R&P in your 951? Ouch, that sounds like disaster waiting to happen. I wouldn't advise that at all.
If the R&P are still good in your 951 trans, why not replace 2nd gear and synchros/bearings/seals/etc?

debris from the gears killed the ring gear. I'd be going up about .4 in gear which would suit me fine especially since I primarily drag race. BTW I've got a new personal best hence the broken tranny. I'll scan the slips when I get time. I've had my car sitting for some time as I've been rather busy I just overhauled a 98 E39 beemer motor that was flood damaged and had a bent rod as well as a stealth I'm putting some big turbos etc on, that guy's from down in loveland that owns the stealth. plus I messed the stang motor up so I've been messing with it. this is the first I've been on here since midsummer. I'm also in the process of developing a new 4 valve midget engine that'll be a suzuki deriative to replace the 2 valve honda motors that everyone currently uses

yeah I know new personal best this summer 11.23 iirc I'll have to grab the slips from the three full passes I got before the trans expired. I've been without since and I miss my P-car! plus my 98 dakota is a gas hog!

I'll be going to st louis this weekend but I'm gonna try to get my trans together over the week now that I'm getting caught up at the shop finally. thanks for the offer and let me see what I can get together

Well, I would say that I am willing to wait for a good offer. It might be around at the end of the week. I could meet up with you somewhere if you are interested.

It's not exactly the same (N/A is 3.89), but darn close. On a turbo it wouldn't matter I'm certain. Although, wasn't there a reason that porsche used the taller ratio on the turbo? Doesn't it take advantage of the 951's power/torque curve?

N/As kill their R&P gear with too much hard driving... Putting that set in a modded 951 and they wont last a week I bet. Now drag that 951 hard, and I bet those gears wouldnt last an evening.

The N/A may help somewhat on the speed of getting the car moving through the gear quicker, but that just leaves more shifts to make before you hit 100/120. Shifting more will slow your times more even though you hit the redline quicker. I don't think the N/A tranny will help your times that much, in fact, it may hurt them.

Look at what 143hp does to an n/a pinion gear (not driven overly hard, but autocrossed, lasted 18 months after rebuild):

thats improper set up for sure excessive movement allowed the the diff to move away from the pinion. Thats common in rearwheel drive trans due to case fles on many of the american trans. I must say our tranny's are extremely easy to fix. I can do a T-5 completely drunk and these tranny's wouldn't be far behind! Now a mazda R-1 is another story
