Default mirror base gasket ???

Ordered new mirror base gaskets from Pelican, they arrived, went to put them on, and things are not right. First off, one of the many PO's soldered the connections, no connectors anywhere. What a pain....Secondly, the gaskets dont match up. Here is where you guys come in.....
Mirror number: 928 731 023 05
Looks just like the other 944 mirrors, best I can tell
Original base gasket number: 477 857 505 (only numbers I can find)
NEW base gasket number: 94473150501

Have the mirrors been replaced with non spec ones, and if so, anyone know the number for the proper gasket?

Was going to start my clutch job today, but after this supposedly easy 5 minute deal, I am starting to think that today would not be a good day to anger the Pcar gods....

TIA!

Tom.. Long time no hablo- just happen to have my mirrors off for a winter repaint. I have the same numbers as your original numbers (I also have an 85.5 944). I'ld be interested in knowing a source for the gaskets, if you find one (I need all of them)...Bruce

PS that spliced wiring thing is typical - there are no connectors or at least the nearest one is just forward of the door hinge.

Well, apparently, we may have late cars with early mirrors. Pelican needs the number on my other gasket to make sure they send out the right stuff, so I am going to call them this evening. I'll keep you posted on what numbers are what and what we need to order.

Thanks again for the tools, many moons ago. One of the first purchases I made, and tools I have used more than many in my box....

Apparently we do have early mirrors. Pelican is going to send out the early gaskets, 944-731-505-00 and ....508-00 so we will see.

They said that they have had several issues with "strange" parts on cars. Case in point, guy said a few months ago a customer called in with a strange belt roller. After much research, only 150 or so cars had that particular roller on it, there were only about 7 left in the world, and they were all in Germany. Guess Porsche changed stuff on the fly on occassion, or ran out of stuff and didn't want to slow production. Maybe we have very early 85.5 cars, and they were trying to use up their stock?

Anyway, if they work, I'll post up....

Got the gaskets in, and they work fine. Took a few days to get them sourced, but other than being a little tight (typical) the early ones went on and look great. Just an FYI, for Bruce and others with my numbers....
