Default How to solve SFR short shift rattle?

Hey all. I just installed a sfr ss kit along with my 944 racing one, it shifts amazing. But I am having a lot of rattling. Has anyone corrected this, or know of a way how? I hate rattling with a passion and would like to get rid of it. Thanks

Could I slip in rubber gromets between the 2 13mm bolts? Also my clutch is going and I can hear every sound of my clutch through this shifter. The shifter is acting as a microphone for the clutch.

hmm i have the sfr lever as well, but never had any rattling associated with it. although i do not have a real short throw shifter like your 944 racing one so it is probably a different situation. good luck buddy

Take note of the way Porsche isolated the shift **** from the shift rod... large rubber insulators and probably also the weighty OE **** seem to be necessary to dampen the vibrations. I tried in vain to silence the godawful noise but eventually returned to the OE shift lever and **** (with shortshift at the tranny).

Good luck.

Well, I tired lots of stuff to make it not as loud. Right now, I have the thickest piece of rubber in there so it fits and still get the noise. I just gave up on it and deal with it, can't beat the feel. I also bought the short shift for the tranny but still haven't had the time to put it in.

Thumbs up

Installed my SFR ssk and after two Malibu canyon runs where the short shift help make up for my little 26/6 turbo powerband, I am verrry pleased. The Glendora run before the install I was digging 3rd out of the bottom of the pass foot well, j/k. Even shifting without the **** or boot installed was very smooth.

No rattles, OE shift ****, Alan Gunn shift boot, good to go.

i too have a rattle in the shifter, its much better now but the fix is a bit strange.
i switched to a boxster shift ****, a bit lighter than the stock one.. and yes i think the weight
of the stock one keeps it from rattling... but, this spring i installed a sfr catback system. when i did this, i moved the clamps to the exhaust mounts on the torque tube. just moved them
an inch or two... most of my rattling is gone now.. i think it was a harmonic vibration around 2800 rpm.
(about 63mph) in 5th... you might want to experiment with moving these.. also check the
rubber parts of the exhaust mounts.. i had one that was pretty bad. i'm replacing it this winter..
good luck
