I imported a car about 5-7 years ago, it wasnt that bad, i think you need to pay a tax based on the value of the car, but i cant remember the rest, we imported a Buick Rivera, and it really wanst all that bad. Definately not as easy as coming int othe states, all ya do is go tot the DMV like normal, claim what ya paid like normal, that is just too easy.

At $8180 total cost, the car is still cheaper than all the $12,000, $14,000 and $18,000 944 turbo's which are seilling up here in Canada.
Not to mention all the money I save by stripping it of all the goodies which will wind up on my car.

Congrats on the purchase! Great deal!
Let me be the first to get in line for parts. I would like to buy that little black plastic thing-a-ma-bob (technical term) that covers the opening for the tow eye in the front bumper support. Also the header panel if it is not dented.

I am glad you got it Rich. I was watching it and that was one hell of a bidding war in the last couple seconds. I was trying to talk my dad into it as a car for me (for those that didn't meet me at the Vancouver meet or elsewhere, I'm 16). Then the bidding war started. I was a little down about it for a second then I read "richard sandor" as the top bidder, then you won and I posted this thread.

Here is one of my posts from July for importing a 951 into Canada,
I just imported my 87 951 to Vancouver and thought I would post what happened.
If the car is over 15 years old I do not think you need the $75 letter from Porsche saying it does not have any recalls. I did not have it and was not asked for it.
I was also not charged the $100 A/C tax. They look to see it the car has A/C or not. I do not think the customs agent knew the snow flake button is German for A/C.
The taking the title into U.S customs for 72 hours is for the U.S Customs only. Canadian customs does not care about this but if you ever want to take back into the U.S and do not do this you might have a problem.
Other then that it was pay the 7% GST & 6.1% duty at the border. Then you take it to any Canadian tire (or some service shops) for a BC inspection. Then take everything to a ICBC broker and give them the papers, pay the PST and insurance.
