I have had zero free time this last week, finally got to work on my mysterious dying/no start issue. I re-wired the batt terminal ends (lots of corrosion), checked all the grounds, still nothing. Found out a co-worker here used to be a tech at a Porsche shop (lots of free advice) and told me he was pretty sure it was the DME. Now I just have to find a replacement part and try that. Keeping my fingers crossed because I am going through withdrawal not driving her. I'll update when she is back amongst the living.

IF its the DME, you might start by doing the basic test: if/when you can get it started again, while idling, walk around to the passenger side and slam the side of your fist on the angled floorboard. if it sputters and/or cuts out and dies...its a bad DME.

i'm leaning toward this being the problem, except for the total lack of flashers/power condition....not sure why that might happening.....

good luck!

Speed and reference sensors. Bracket at the back top of the engine bay. Two connectors through an L shaped bracket. Either gets loose the car will die like it's out of gas. Wiggle them with the engine running and see if it dies. Or wiggle them with the engine not running and see if it starts. Either way - wiggle it.

I'd second the speed/reference sensor connections. IF it was the DME relay, you would still have electrical power to radio, etc. Plus on the early cars the bang the floor won't work to test bad connections in the DME unit itself, as it is under the steering column.

I am going to have to say grounds. Could be the ones on the block or as simple as the one on the battery. For that matter it could even be that the post of the battery is broken inside and doesn't connect to the plates inside when it vibrates just right (I doubt it though).

Just remember: if you wiggle it more than twice, you're playing with it.

Check the coil. And also the relay for the alarm. I'd put my $ on the alatm relay.
