20-50 castrol is a godsend for our cars. I use it all year round, as i live in a fairly warm climate. You may try 10-40 in the winter, however, itll leak even more than 15-50 Mobil 1. Once you do all your front and rear seals, get a new oil pan gasket, and put some new loctite on the balance shaft housings, then you can start thinking about 15-50 mobil 1.

When I lived on Long Island, I used 10/40 in the winter and 20/50 in the summer. Down here in Florida, I run 20/50 year round. I've always had some small leaks so I use dino.

I ran Amsoil 20/50 in the summer, but lately I've been using Mobil 1 15/50, it's much cheaper than the Amsoil, and I don't think 20/50 is 100% necessary in our cold-ish climate.
I run Mobil 1 10/30 in the winter. But, if you don't have badly worn main/rod bearings, 0/30 or 0/40 would be a good idea when it gets really cold.

If the car leaks with synthetic, it will prolly leak with dino after synthetic. From what ive heard/read/etc, synthetic doesnt have smaller molecules, its that it cleans the engine very well and cleans out all the old sludge and goo that was acting as a seal in the engine. End result, oil (dino or synthetic) can now get to the seals and leak more freely.

Synthetic also doens't have the properties of dyno oil. The break-down is much less significant. There was a guy on the 928 board with 8000 miles on the synthetic oil that had it tested after every 1000. The oil was still fine. The seals can get leaky if you don't stay with synthetic though. It's really a whole eifferent animal than dyno oil. It treats seals totallly different. Do a search if you're interested in more details.

Whether or not the molecules are smaller can be argued forever.... However, i had to add a quart of mobil 1 every 500 miles. With castrol 20-50, only about a 1.5 quarts every 3k.

Ya me too...though sometimes I'm too lazy to go and buy oil, so I usually find some sort of oil in the kitchen cupboard...

Thanks to everyone who gave helpful advice. I picked up 6 quarts of mobil synthetic 5w30 made for engines with over 75,000 miles. While i drained the oil last night, I ran outta time and had to go to work, which means it will get filled when I get my lazy butt outta bed. I'll keep anyone who is intrested up to date on how I make out with the oil, such as any leaks, excessive consumption, ect.

Go with Dino oil, 10w-40, Castrol makes a good one. Use the plastic grocery bag trick when removing your oil filter. N/A owners can use a 928 filter which is longer and easier to twist on and off.

i have one better than the grocery bag.
take a medium plastic ketchup bottle and cut away one of the wide sides - you now have a spillway.
it will fit up right under the filter mount - direct the spout down into your pan - you wont spill a drop.

I could probably change my oil in a three-piece suit

That sounds good too. Still want to know the bag trick.
