I don't like using that plug. I just unhook the lower radiator hose and watch it come out from both ends. Make sure you have a pan large enough for the coolant and it will come out from the hose side and the radiator side.

Cheers Guys - I only want to get to this plug to ensure that there isnt any blockage - my engine is overheating - I've pinned it down to what looks like lack of circulation - cant beleive its the water pump (and thats a big job)- so trying everything else first. Radiator is clear, fan switch OK, thermostat removed to make sure its not that. NB: I'm using pure to water to test out the system.
If no joy I will dimantle and insoect the water pump. The car has been sitting for a couple of years, being turned over occasionally - but I cant beleive that the water pump can have corroded that badly - anyone had a water pump failure? I would have thought the bearing would go first!
