Having gone to solid uppers (camber/caster plates, in my case), the most noticeable gain is the crispness on turn-in... mind, this was done in conjunction with spherical bearings replacing the a-arm rubber bushings.
Good work on those parts, it's a heckuva good deal! I don't suppose you might be considering a camber/caster adjustable one, or is it hard to beat the price of those already available such as from Paragon?
As for shimmy - I think it's somewhat due to tire balance, somewhat due to bushing and component wear. I have rebuilt the front end on my 82 931, which is my daily driver, and the only time I get front-end shimmy is when I'm on the brakes - have to have the rotors turned or replace them. I used all stock rubber parts - Detroit roads are a B*tch!!!
