Default LY7U -- Slate Gray or Stone Gray

Pete's color thread got me thinking. I've seen color code LY7U refered to as both slate gray and stone gray. Does anyone know which is the proper name? To make things more confusing, it looks exactly like the 986 and 996 color known as slate gray (although that has a different code) and nothing like the original slate gray (see steve mcqueen's 911S in the opening of Le Mans). Ironically, I'm color blind and thought that the beauty of owning a gray car would be that I wouldn't have any trouble knowing what color it is.

Ok I have to hijack this and comment on your avatar Macfreak. I've been giggling over that semi airborne car for the good while now. Damn that is great.

Miss that color. Wasn't wild about it at first, but it has become one of my favorites. A color you just never tire of...

i think it my be both.

the color is steingrot (spelling) on the can. slate/stone may both translate to stein.

Like guards, india and indian all translate to ferrari when followed by the word red.

KLR's car isn't Slate Gray, I saw it Sunday, and it's definately different from my old coupe as well as the newer Seal Gray too.

I have a brochure from 1989 at home. I will check it tonight and report what it calls the color.

My first 951 had paint code LY7U. DAMN that was a hard car to sell. It even had sport seats and LSD, and was in very good shape. No seat tears, 968 wheels, new tires, nice stereo, never any body work whatsoever.

That was my first and last gray car.

Of course, the new owner wrecked it two hours after buying it. I wish I was kidding.

These two actually aren't the greatest. I need to snap a few more when I take it out this weekend.

I just checked my brochure from 1989. They mention the split rear seat option and 18 cu ft of storage with the rear seat folded down, but dont list the colors available.

I wish I would have bought it. That's my all time favorite 951 color.
