I can see dumping money into a car you love. If a Tempo actually was offered with the body mods and some HP (A la Onmi GLH) It would have probably sold much better.
I have owned several Fords(Mustangs, Taurus and even a Fairmont) and overall thier quality (or lackthereof) has always shined through. (My 88 Taurus was a study in dark grey plastic and sheetmetal- we used to kid that is was completely unnoticeable on the street, and actually blended in with the asphalt and surroundings - hence it's nickname "stealthmobile". I could do 20 over and never get stopped.)

Whatever floats your boat.. If you love it -you improve it to suit your own tastes.
