Yes, wheels can be balanced off the car. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find a place that has an on car balancer. I know that none of our stores do unless it was there before we owned the place. On car balance does a slightly better job because it can account for brake differentials. Like I say though, good luck finding someone with the machine!

guess I wont worry about that. All I care about now is making sure they put the weights on the INSIDE of the wheel!

i just spoke with my local master-care [firestone] place and the guy said 245/45-16 is a wacky rare size. fine. he cant get RE750s in that size easily because no one has them and its a model thats on its way out? but he has fuzions (or can easily get them) in that size. so should I just go with the fuzion nonsense? 225/245.. whats the new potenza in the 750 range? he says the first step up in potenza is like $160 a tire. owch. these fuzions are 100 each and thats with the 10% cost thing.. he doesnt even give a discount, he just automatically offers 10%+ cost like the card. hmph.

Simon,
I have the 930 205/245 setup because I got a good set of used Dunlop 8000s or 9000s for 250 delivered. remember this is a summer toy that never gets used for me. I have dry rot issues.

I would go with Matts suggestion of 225/245. the front will be a little heavier, but the car will probably feel more go cart like. Dont get too crazy, all the tires you are looking at are decent. decent enough for the street.

Operator, please PM me with the store information. I need to talk to whomever you spoke with on Monday. If you would like to wait for the RE750s I can have a set to that store in no more than 3 business days, even if I have to get them from Canada or Japan. He is also wrong about them going away. Please PM me when you have time, I have some ***-chewing to do on Monday,

i dont wanna get in trouble for ratting this guy out :-o i will pm you the info but you can be almost certain that once i do i cant actually go there to get tires, the guy knows my name and will remember it when i come in asking to get those tires mounted (i told him what kind of wheels I had, etc) .. and thus will do a crap-*** job.

besides tirerack is like 30 bux cheaper per tire (on the fuzion).. 50 on the wider ones.. insanity.

would you say the re750 is really worth the extra $$? ill pm you..

I would really need to see a quote (which you can fax to me) to see what pricing he if offering. If you are comparing TR have compared with shipping, payment for install, etc? While the tires themselves may be cheaper (though they shouldnt be at cost +10%) by the time you are done paying for freight plus paying someone to install, they probably will be about the same price.

I will follow up with you on Monday.

NZ 951- are those magnesium Phone Dials? IF so, the front is an 8" IIRC(?).... STILL.... a 7" does FINE w/225/50/16's... MANY here will attest to that & agree that a 205 is too small in relation to a 245+ rear on a 944....

OPerator- I'm not sure about those Fuzion's- Matt may know a lot more about them, but, I've never even heard of them, so, unless I saw a few other responses on them, I'd stay away, but, I'm a picky bastard.... As for finding 245/45/16.... I just did a search on Tire Rack for a few specific brands in the top two performance categories & came up w/11 dif tires- You can get Dunlop SP8000's for $125 (fronts will be much cheaper for ALL of these, so, I'm quoting the 245's, being worst case scenario...)- Yokohama AVS Sports were $137- S03's were $190 (getting pricey, BUT, probably the best), Conti-Sports were $150 (Tony G & SEVERAL other's are claiming these to be the best out right now....), the RE750 was $127, etc... In any event, I'd listen to Matt on tires- he may have weird tastes about what LOOKS right, but, he DOES know tires....

Just yesterday put Fuzions on the car. 245/45-16 rear 225/50-16 front. 7 and 8 in. wheels. Haven't driven them other than a short spin down the street. Was concerned about how the steering would be at low speed with the bigger front. Manual steering ya know. Actually I think it steered easier than with the old worn out Nitto's I took off. Will report back with opnions after I get some miles on them.
So far look pretty good.

Bill- not sure about manual feel, but, am hoping to find out.... I DO know that most people say that turn-in is sharper, etc, w/larger fronts, so.... maybe this explains your impressions....
