Tire Sizes - Again 205/255 is the right setup!?

245's all around w/ A035R's would be awsome for a stock S2 or non-S 951.
The only downside is if you have a lot of power over stock, even 245's are not enough in back.
There is a reason though why 99% of racecars have enormous rear tyres...

just hijacking-- Im buying tires today for 18x8 and 18x10 wheels:
Fronts will be 225/40 18
Rears will be either 265/35 18 or 285/30 18. Any thoughts? My 255/40's hold pretty well right now with lsd, so I dont need to go overkill for looks or bragging rights...but just looking for different thoughts/insight.
sorry to hijack, didnt really feel like it warranted it a whole new thread though.

Sam: If I were you, I'd go with the 265's in the back. You already have too much grip in the back compared to the fronts with the 265's (result: understeer), and the 285's would just compound the effect.
BTW: You do have beefed up A-arms, right?!?
Then again, 285's would look mighty fine .... mightly fine.....

Sam: How much power does your car make? If you are near 350hp I would probably go for 285's just to help with wheelspin. Also, do you have the 968 castor blocks? Apparently they make a big difference for the front steering w/ bigger wheels.
You can mess with a few things to dial out understeer
-Sway bars (if adjustable)
-Camber (or camber plates if you got em)
-Tyre pressures..

968 castor blocks have been mentioned a few time so far...pardon my ignorance, but is that something I should look into doing on my car? I'm running 17" 996 twists 7.5 and 9 with 225/255 tires. I track the car a couple times a year too. I don't know if I wanna know the price tag on them though

dave120: how old are your A-arms? Are they stock? Is your car lowered? Be careful: track driven 944's with old, stock A-arms on lowered cars with 17" weels are prone to catastrophic ball joint failure.

Dave, yes get the 968 caster blocks. It's the part at the back of the control arm that mounts to the car with two large bolts. The 968 part has much less rubber in it. Call Paragon, they have them and it takes no time to install them. It should be real easy with your lift. The pair of them cost me $130.00.
Sam, my 18's are 225/40 and 285/30 No problem with clearance depending on offset. The offset on my wheels are 49mm front and 52mm rear. You may still have to roll the rear fender lip unless you run a lot of negative camber.

Both my a arms have been rebuilt, but not beefier. I am going to do 968 castor blocks this time around with 18's, didnt mess with them on the 17s (should have, but didnt...)
Rich, right now Im guessing around 270ish HP, 285ish TQ. (Have a dyno chart from 3rd gear w/ baaddd A/F values..its better now (dynoed at 273/312 dynojet) more to come with tuning and a new turbo down the road.
Thanks for your input folks, oh and Dave castor blocks are around (??) bucks from Paragon I think. After hearing Adrials horror story and a few others in the past- Its time for the updated units.
edit: wrong on price I guess.

I'm not sure if they updated the part at a later time or what, but the new ones look a little different than the old ones, some extra little reinforcements and stuff that I noticed when comparing them side by side. With my new suspension work the car is lowered a little bit. Ride height from the ground to the bottom of the fender is about 24 3/4"
More money to spend...and I thought I was done for a while after all this last batch of suspension expenses...ahh well, if I don't blow it on the car I'll blow it on something else stupid right?
