Even after replacing the heater control valve the fan comes on a lot. The needle is on the 1/4 mark and still comes on and sometimes doesnt shut off for a long time. Its wierd sometimes it wont go on even when its in the middle and sometimes it does. Well Ii did fix the valve so no more leak so in that aspect im happy. BTW weather has been in the mid 80's here and average traffic. Your thoughts. Is this normal.

Replace the Thermofan Switch. It bolts into the rad, top right when looking from the front of the car. Theres a howto on clarks garage.
But make sure your cooling system is TOTALLY bled first.

The thing that I find annoying is that the fans seem to come on every time I turn on the A/C. I can see on the one hand that could be a feature as you have a chance for some cooling even while the car is stationary, but the fans are loud and I'd like them to run as little as possible.
Is this situation normal to have the fan come on every time the A/C button is pushed?
Thanks,
Phil

I'm suprised you consider your fans loud, the twin 6-blade fans on both my cars are very quiet in comparison to other cars I hear. I wonder if the 968 has larger fans or something. I agree, it does seem unnecessary to have the #2 fan come on w/ AC on the freeway no matter what the water temp is.

The fan comes on automatically whenever the AC is on.
My 968 actually stays cooler in the summer when I run the AC. If I turn it off to enjoy windows down the temp guage goes up.

You might want to flush the cooling system, especially the radiator. Better heat transfer will reduce the fan duty period.
Also make sure your mixture of coolant and water does not contain too much coolant. I noticed a considerable reduction of the fun duty period when switched from 60/40 (coolant/water) to 50/50 ratio. This ratio depends on the minimum temperatures you expect in winter. Temperature-wise, Chicago is similar to London, Ontario, and 50/50 might be a good choice for you.
