Default I need Pics of IceShark Battery CAble kit installed....

HEy everyone,

As some of you know a couple of us Milwaukee area Rennlisters are going to be meating up to help Elf89 install his IceShark battery cable kit...But I have no pics or history to go by, just a long group of words...

So I was wondering anyone ever install this kit and post some pics of their install...I know we will still get the kit in without any major problems, but it would be nice to just hear some opinions and experiences with it, and even better some pics...for some reference purposes i guess...

Thank's everyone..

If you can wait until the end of this weekend, I will be doing the same thing and can snap some pictures.

The installation is basically a one-for-one replacement of existing cables. If you go step by step and note where the cables go, you wil be fine. It took me about 2 hours working alone to do the job. I used string tied to one end of the oldcables to ensure that the new ones followed the same route. Not difficult and very impressive results!

Good thought, Damian. And thanks for the words of encouragement Pete. We're doing it on Sunday too so we'll also take some pictures along the way. Looking forward to it!

The new cables are a PITA to work with.

Also, install the positive, then the ground... So that you dont short the positive terminal against the metal near the windshield...

Speaking of IceShark kits...does anybody have pics or a graphical walkthrough of the IceShark full boat install? I have had my kit sitting on a shelf for a little while and I haven't found the time to install.

Thanks,
Max

Dan (Iceshark) is on holiday apparently, but he had a Canadian customer who did a very extensive write up IIRC - he was looking for somewhere to host it and I don't think he found anyone before he left.

Well I got the kit too but its still sitting in the garage instead of in the car. I got the headlight upgrade too so the advantage for me is better lighting and a higher cleaner voltage which will help most of the electronical stuff in the car like sensors and the dme.

The stock headlights are absolutely HORRIBLE. Dan Wray (Iceshark) really knows his stuff when it comes to electrical systems and put together one hell of a kit.

Here's a page from Danno's website showing Dan Wray's stuff:

I can't speak for the headlight kit, but the battery kit made a significant difference for me. I was barely getting 11 volts at the dashboard gauge. Most times, after I drove the car, I could not restart it. The day I went to install the cables, I could not get the car started. After installation, with no battery charging, the car started right up, and my voltmeter (late dash) basically horizontal. Also, when accessories like interior fans, cooling fans or A/C are on, the voltage does not vary. That is a huge difference for me. My problems centered on the positive battery cable at the battery, as far as I could tell. But now, all is good. Best 200 I have spent on the car.

My bit of advice to add to the others would be -- if installing the supplemental positive cable -- drill the 1" hole *at least* 1.5" from the relay box in the cowl area. It's been months since I installed this kit so my memory may be off but I'm pretty sure the directions said 1.5" would be fine. There was a stock wiring harness running under the cowl sheetmetal next to the relay box and I *just* missed drilling through it. Then again, scoot under the dash inside the car and look up with a flashlight to see if that wire bundle next to the relay box is also on your car. I have an '89 951.

I made the writeup. The file is over 11 mB in Word format. If someone is willing to host it, I'd be glad to provide it.
