door handle latch not working
can any one tell me how to fix the door handles on an 86 porsche 944. both sides are not working! when you squeeze the handle on the outside , parts move on the inside, but no release of the door latch.

But it works from the inside, I guess?
Remove the inner panel and find the small plastic piece that connects the outer door handle to the rod that operates the latch. You can pop the plastic piece off door handle connector. You'll find that the plastic piece is threaded onto the rod. Just screw it down a few turns and pop it back on. That may solve the problem. Of course, there might be a broken piece, too.

When one of my door handles failed, it was actually a broken metal section at the rear of the handle; without the hole for a pivot point, the outside finger pull was loose and did nothing. If it opens from the inside pull the pivot is probably OK and Steve's suggestion on the black plastic piece is right. If both pieces are popped off I would buy new from, they're cheap from the dealer, everytime the door is closed hard the old snaps will eventually fall off again. When you take the door panel off you'll be able to see the bad part.
