They have their own little black book of car values, its based on KBB or any of the other listings. The crappy thing is that once a car reaches a certain age, they must use the classica car listings for it which are significantly more, that is what happended to me last time I paied tax on a 944...

DMV said If i bought car below fair market value then the seller has to fill out a form. Just want to register car and be done but want to know what the value is.
