Default Electrical issues - related?

Hello. My battery used to die between drives unless I pulled fuse number 7. Then, it (the battery) didn't drain for a long time - until I noticed a wire NOT CONNECTED at the battery. I can take if pic if it will help, but essentially, the cable on the positive battery connector has three wires on it - the wire closest to the windshield was separated from the housing, and for some reason my car ran fine but never had a drained battery. I noticed the disconnected wire recently, so I hooked it up. Now, the battery is dying again!!! Argh!

So, does anyone know what the third set of wires at the positive battery terminal are for? Why would my car act normal without them, and why would my car drain the battery when they're connected?

TIA! - Dale.

What color is the wire you are concerned about? Pictures will probably be good.

Thanks for the reply, streckfu. I'll post a pic tomorrow.
Hopefully someone will recognize the picture.

Thanks!

Dale.

Nevermind. I simply had a bad battery.

I guess it was coincidental that I discovered the wire problem at the same time.

Thanks anyway.

Dale.
