Default Stiff Gas Pedal

Just got my 86 944 back from the shop, had it towed in because the timing belt was so loose that it was slapping against the cover.

When I picked the car up the gas pedal was much stuffer and took a lot more effort to depress. Also, seemed like the revs would stick a little between gear changes. The car was absolutely not like this before it was in the shop. How would I go about adjusting the stiffness of the gas pedal? Thanks.

Pat

I think the stiffness of the pedal is determined by the spring on the throttle body that keeps the butterfly closed. Could be wrong though...

probably need to lube the cable. They have these cans, kind of like a wd40 can or something with the little hose.. and then you can clamp the cable in this thing that comes with it, then you stick the hose in the side of the device..

I would disconnect the side by the throttle cam, hold it up a little so it would go down the cable, and spray and spray and spray.. the lube will slide down the cable to the end... then press and release the pedal all the way a fw times. otehrwise maybe your tps or soemthing is sticking.

The revs in my '84 would hesitate before dropping between shifts when my balance shafts were out of sequence. Since the shop was addressing some timing belt issues, the balance shaft belt could be a bit off.

Must be a sticky cable. Those cable oiler gizmos are OK, or you can just detach the cable at the throttle body end, hold it up and drip oil drip down the cable into the outer for a while.

Still, it is very strange this happened all of a sudden. Look for other problems or ask the shop about it.

Incorrect jacking can deform the floor panel and prevent the accelerator pedal from operating smoothly. The solution to this involves a block of wood and a large hammer

Cheers,

Jim.
