Default Manual to Power steering question

Im installing power steering in my 83 N/A, and having a bit of a problem. I connected everything up, now when I go to turn, the steering control rod hits up agenst the motor mount bracket.

It looks like the control rod is too long.......do I need to get a shorter rod?

Thanks

Jared

Yup. New is around $250.00. Maybe somebody has one lying around that you can have.

Do you mean the linkage shaft (steering column to rack)? If so then yes you need a shorter one. I just converted to a manual rack in my car and I have this part if you need it. Actually, if you want to trade for your manual shaft I'd do that so I'd have an extra, just in case.

Yea, I mean the linkage shaft.

Im not sure if I want to trade it away just yet, I dont know if Im going to like power steering in this car or not. The wrecking yard sold me a power steering "package" when I bought the 968 motor and tranny, but didnt include the updated linakge shaft.

Im going to have to get them on the horn and see if they can send one out to me. Thanks for the info!

Oh, wait. One more question..... When you mount the power steering pulley to the block, is there a belt tensioner (like the A/C belt tensioner) connected from the pump to the block?

Thanks,

Jared

1) I've got a power steering input shaft if you need it (although you'd probably want it from someone closer)
2) I believe it does have the tensioner you're talking about. When I hooked up my powersteering again to an engine that didn't have it before, it took some jury-rigging to get everything in line, so I couldn't quite get the tensioner to be straight inline with the pump and block. YMMV
