Default 944 OR 924 S STALLING?

If your 944 or 924 S has poor starting or stalls or has poor idle, change the fuel screen in the full tank. My 83' did all of these and I took the old screen out and it was full of junk. It kept the engine from getting the fuel it was suppose to be getting. The screen is connected fuel line that connects the tank to the fuel pump. The screen is screwed into the tank. I got mine at the dealership for $45. I called around to all of the auto stores and no one could get it even though it was a Purelator screen.

hmm... great advice. So do I just take the first hose out and should the screen be attached to the hose?

Disconnect the S shaped hose then unscrew the filter.

righty-tighty.......lefty-loosey?...........Ok, maybe not quite that straight forward. I'm interested in this subject myself, since I have to completely remove my '83's tank to repair/replace a leaky top.

I just went out to take a look at the extra fuel tanks I have from an '83 and a '85/2 car. Both have the same filter screen, both are Purolator part number PM 4211 M37 X 1.5, and a 17mm box end wrench will take it out. Yep......lefty-loosey....righty-tighty applies (but, don't forget to drain your tank completely ). My Parts and Ref. manual shows part numbers as follows for this screen/gasket combination:

All models of 944 series 1983-1988

Screen : 928 201 081 04
Gasket : 928 201 187 02

I'd guess its the same for later cars also, book only shows to 1988.

I removed the one from the steel tank I have, and wow! It is full of crap. I cleaned it, and probably could re-use it, but I think I'll flush out tank good, and replace this screen also. I just want to find a better price than $45.00 (I hope).
