So in a nutshell a Clubsport was an M030 car that had the CS insignia on driver side of the car with optional lightweight mirrors. The car was considered an "Exclusive Program" car under the option sheet.

Here is some more info from the 1987 Dealers manual:

Option code 030 was called the "Club Sport Package"
Option code 637 was called the "Performance Handling Package"

There is a footnote that option 637 must be ordered with option 030.

In the description of new options available for 1987 it states: "Sports package for 944S and 944 Turbo. This package includes stiffer spring settings, turbo brake system, adjustable rear axle stabilizer, firmer suspension arm bearings, 8" front and 9" rear wheels w/ 225/50 and 245/45 VR 16 tires respectively, as well as measures to reduce the weight of the entire car. NOTE: A somewhat milder version of this performance handling package called the Club Sport Package is also available."

Cost for the options were:

030 Club Sport Package $674.00
637 Performance Handling Package (944/944S) $4752.00
(944 Turbo) $628.00

030? that's M030. I think the number's should be reversed dude. M637 according to the books is "Equipment for Clubsport."

I would never call an M030 car a "club sport" either, but the excerpts I listed before came straight from pages 55-58 of the dealer sales book for MY 87. Ive never seen an M030 car referred to as or with a "Club Sport" decal so Im not sure why the dealer book identified it as such. What book are you referencing?

The M637 option is what I would call a "Club Sport", but those are the factory prepped/stripped out cars made for motorsports. These were the IMSA Firehawk and SCCA Playboy/Escort cars and had a long list of differences from street cars. But I have never seen any of those cars with the "CS" badge either, so who knows what the factory's intended application was for the decal.

The m637 option was for club racing wannabe's. It includes the sticker and lightweight mirrors. Thats the intention...

Let me make sure I understand the claim:

That M637 optioned cars are/or are not the factory motorport Club Sport versions made for racing?

If not, then you are saying that the black plastic mirrors and a "CS" sticker were a $4752 option for MY 87? Or that the M637 option was just mirrors and a sticker during previous model years?

If yes, then you are saying the only difference between a Firehawk/Escort car and the street cars are the mirrors?

Here is why I am asking: Since PCA Club Racing allows you to add optional equipment and stay in the stock class (for example, F Class 944S2s can add 928S4 front brakes because it was available as the M030 option), I looked into seeing if there was a factory option, like the M030 that upgraded the brakes on an 87 944S to turbo brakes. What I found was the M637 option added brakes and a lot more. But after reseaching it and discussing with the PCA Club Racing Scrutineers, everything indicated that the 637 option was the factory club sport conversion brought to the US for the Firehawk and Escort race series. And unfortunately for my position, modifications to the Club Sport specs are not allowed without bumping the car up a class or two.

If you guys have some info that M637 is something other than the full motorsport conversion, let me know as it may give me enough data to reopen my request for ruling with PCA.

ok there seems to be a huge misconception here with the clubsport car. Porsche did have cars used in the Firehawk series; but Im not sure those were exactly clubsport cars. I thought they were motorsport prepped 944s with safety hardware installed for the purposes of track only racing. Whether or not it was a clubsport still would involve some massive stripping and gutting.

the M637 option for the street contained the same sport chassis components as M030 cars along with the turbo cup mirrors. As usual, Porsche offered Exlcusivity in their cars to taylor it to suit your needs; including deletions and additions for a price. Like most clubsport versions of Porsche's models; there were some that were street legal including the 944CS, 911 CS and the famous 993 RS Clubsport.

Andy, was the sticker tough to put on? I would've been freaking out worried I'd put a wrinkle in the $190 decal! Looks great!

on a scale of 1-5 I say about a 4 because I tried to line it up perfectly. The bad thing was I have a wrinkle on the 'u' of 'Clubsport' But I tried my best and other than that everything came out great and the wrinkle is not noticeable unless you walk up to the fender. In fact you can't even see it in the pictures on page 1.
