Having just left Orlando after successfully avoiding hurricanes for 5 years I'm counting my lucky stars I got out when I did. Hope you and your P-cars make it through ok. Maybe Fran won't drop in for a visit afterall.

Unhappy Hurricane

I know how you feel. We went through the same thing when Charley was aiming at the Tampa bay area. We're in an "A" evacuation zone and had to get out. I was forced to leave my toys in my garage knowing that if the storm hit the floodwaters would be about 8' deep. Definately a ****ty feeling. We packed up and ran to the "safety" of my sister's house in Orlando only to be hit by the storm! Go figure. The bottom line is, keep you and your's safe, there are more toys out there. Good luck to all, let's hope this sucker makes a right turn. It could be a tough one to hide from.

Good luck to all down there. I'm flying in to Tampa tomorrow (great timing, huh).
Dave, is there no way to take your car with you?

Bad timing for sure. If the storm tracks diagonally across the center of the state, it's a pretty good bet that the Bay Area will get some heavy weather and the folks in the Orlando area will get pounded again. Sure hope it turns.

jd944, I see that you're in Palm Harbor. That's where I'm going.

Cover your car with as many blankets, foam rubber, styrofoam, etc as you can get under the car cover, then duct tape it up like a cocoon.

Why don't you drive them there?

Orlando is going to get pounded too, and my car would be outside there. I'm not sure if it's better outside or here in the garage...good idea Pred, I'm gonna go find my car cover and once I make sure I don't need to drive it anyhere else I'm going to pad it up as best I can. Porsche aerodynamics will make the car fine in that kinda wind...if there wasn't so much crap flying around...

It's a nice area. We've only been here about 3 years but really fell in love with the place. I hope the weather cooperates for your visit.

It is nice down there as long as I stay away from US 19. Too much traffic for me.
My sister has lived there for over 10 years.

Not only do you have to deal with the storm, but also have a Calc 3 test? I feel very sorry for you.

Dave what about underground concrete parking garages? I think your cars would be safe there. Stay safe.

underground might get flooded, but my 951 is probably headed to the municipal parking structure (read: ramp) right down the street here in miami beach. i'm a freelance camerman and will be working the storm for Good Morning America, so if you see some video or live shots there, there's a chance its my work.

our condo (3 blocks from the water) is a bunker with the hurricane shutters pulled - also one story up, so i'm not that worried about flooding. but we park on the ground floor - under the building, so the p-car has to go somewhere else to escape potential high water.

when i worked for cnn, i rode out one hurricane in a mini-van parked in parking ramp - snuggled right up against a wall. no problem. hopefully this will be a similar experience for the 951......

Try not to get your bowels in too much of an uproar. The high winds are only at the core of circulation. The chances that the center will go over your house are pretty low. Your more likely only to see 60mph winds and alot of rain. Prepare more for water damage.

Good luck. Florida's had enough drama this August.
