Hey Ric,

I was writing that the same time you were - note two minutes difference in post times. And my "inferiority complex" comment wasn't at anyone in particular (I realize you, especially, did not write anything to warrant such a comment). It's just that I hear so many "Porsche disowned the front engine cars" and "stepchild" and "its not a 911" comments, that it seems it really bothers some people, and I think it is silly to be bothered by things like that. I am amazed at the parts availability for 944s. That's part of why I originally bought one in 1998. In my experiences with PCA, I never once encountered snobishness toward front engine cars. I've actually never experienced it at all, although I know it happens to some degree; otherwise people would not be complaining. I am under the impression that 911, etc. owners who talk down on the 944 are the poser owners who merely buy the car as a status symbol. I never associate with these kinds of people, but that's my guess as to where it comes from. It seems to me there is a lot more "we're treated unfairly" stuff from 944 owners than the actual amount of snobishness toward 944s warrants.

Cheers,

The same thing goes on with Fiats and Lancias since Fiat purchased Lancia. Some Lancia owners said "the Beta series is not a true Lancia..." There are currently two national Lancia-related clubs in the U.S.: American Lancia Club, which is *all* Lancias, and Fiat-Lancia Unlimited, which is all Fiats and all Lancias made since Fiat purchased Lancia. My experiences with ALC have all been appreciative of my car, including encounters with owners of older Lancias; on the other hand, my experiences with FLU have largely been "ALC is a bunch of snobs." When people have an inferiority complex, they tend to imagine others looking down on them when it is really not happening, or they take something little like, say, a lesser amount of appreciation for something, and blow it out of proportion.

Cheers,

I'm sure that there will be snob Saab purists who disown the GM/Subaru derivatives, and a bunch of vertical windshield/slant back Saab owners wearing cardigan sweaters and smoking pipes will say "it's not a true Saab", but people who can recognize a good car will appreciate the new Saabs for their virtues and be just as welcoming of new Saabs into the Saab club as they are of the Sonnets, 900s, etc.

This is one of the main reasons I converted my car..... to pick on the snob, back-motored sob's and their ***-backward VW's. And believe me... I pick on them damn near every day. The 911, 930, 993, 996 and when they arrive, the 997's are all fair game. And if they ever build one that I can't handle, I'll put the car on the bottle!

Sorry Hoffman, you are the exception! And most all tub owners are great guys too. Guess I shouldn't have lumped you guys in with those others.

I was thinking the other day that all the cars in our Southwestern Ohio Wrenchwerkers group are all Porsche's bastard stepchildren. We have 944's, a couple 924S's, a 914, a 912, and Andy's black beast (the 954). I guess UDPride had better sell his 930 so he doesn't ruin our image.

Yeah that's the part that had me both scratching my head and honestly gave me a small smile. Still they need to add the 944's and 968's. I say we petition Porsche to add that to their site , and if that does not work threaten to hijack the site and bring it down Just kidding of course

well, i dont need a website to tell me mein 912 is a classic because it is in my heart. it is kinda nice to see that the factory finally reaizes it though (for the longest time they didnt even remember us let alone the public).. but still. i dont care what anyone says.. the 912 to me is the best thing since sliced bread and is a classic. i feel the 944 is one too.

and you guys should feel the same way. who cares about the bruce andersons, and the websites and the egos and the bull **** pomp and circumstance.

what matters is how you feel about it yourself. do you really need vindication from a website?

ps.. the answer to the 928 vs 944 question? 912.

At this point, Porsche cares about cars that make them money--new ones!

Maybe it's just me. Maybe I am a tard. I would rather have a few restored older porsches, 944turbo, a 928, and one of hoffmans 912s in that color then a new porsche. Oh and of course my 924s which I already have
