Default Celebration Edition?

I was recently told that I have a "Celebration Edition" Porsche?? They did not elaborate on this topic... Can any one shed some light on this Edition? It is an '88 Porsche 944 N/A. The interior is a grey plaid while the exterior is an Arctic Silver. I have only owned it for a few months now. I have several fantastic pics of the vehicle but not sure how to post them! I think the pics are too large? Thank you in advance for any info! Alex

Default 88 Special Edition

The only plaid interior '88 944 NA was called the "special edition", and came in either black, or zermatt silver only. Here's a shot of my former 88:

Andy, I've seen a reference to the special edition (that includes your former car) that also called it a "celebration edition," it might have been in "Original Porsche, 924/944/968" IIRC but I don't have it in front of me to check. Also IIRC, Porsche has had several "special edition" models over the years and each has had it's own name but was listed only as "special edition" on the sticker/option list/cardex, the thinking is that there's only one 'special edition" at a time so there should be no confusion.
From the number built and the distribution, I can't help but wonder if Alex's car is Andy's "old" car.

I bought My car out in Indiana PA, it had 84k on the odo! Perhaps I was wrong about the name of the color?!! I spoke to the women who owned it just before me and had owned it for 2 years but only put 1800 miles on it! She also had the seats redone with the original cloth but she had black leather put on the bolsters! MUST SEE! Everything else is stock?? The Interior is near MINT as is the exterior!! I'm just about to put it in the shop for a complete maintenance!!

I don't know what the mileage was on Andy's car but the timeframe sounds about right, IIRC he sold it 2-3 years ago. OTOH, his car was in almost perfect condition, I doubt it would have needed the seats redone.

Not my old car Dave. I sold it to an older enthusiast that lives in CT. Doubt he would have sold it that quickly. And, it was near mint...the interior was like new! I miss that strange looking car!
IIRC, it had about 78k miles on it when I sold it. Here's a little reading material that came with the car:

Andy, Do you happen to know how many "Celebration Edition" cars were actually produced? Were there any other special options given to the edition other than what was outlined in the pic you posted? I'll work on posting some pics!! Thanks Again.

The seats were a stumbling point, last I saw your's were still in great shape, but it would be pretty cool for a car to find it's way back to Rennlist after a couple of owners...
IIRC there were 250 Zermat silver and 250 Satin Black.

According to Morgan's 250/250 numbers were for the US -- additional 173 Satin Black and 257 Zermatt Silver were made for RoW. I love plaid -- I'm glad Porsche used to consider them special! Too bad they couldn't do plaid leather -- that would have lasted longer.
