A/C is engaging with no luck
I recently converted to R134a, the A/C worked okay for a while but now has decided to stop cooling. I am suspecting the heater valve, though it only has about 40,000 miles of use on it....Another thought is, if there is air in my coolant lines running through the heater valve would this cause the A/C to not blow cold air? I had been hearing a clicking noises under the dash for about 2 weeks prior to the A/C going south...I seem to remember it did this with the A/C on....perhaps when it was off as well. Any thoughts?

The clicking sound is from the relay, so it must me working.
Check for a faulty heater clip:

Thanks, I'll go check it. You're probably right because it doesn't make much of a difference when I turn the climate control ****. I can hear the venting in the dash move, but it doesn't seem to get any hotter. I also checked the A/C clutch, it is working fine as well...sight glass looks good too. Brb, gonna go look under the dash.

No dice, the clip is perfectly fine. It doesn't move at all when I turn the climate control ****. Turning on the defrost lets out really hot air still. With the climate control **** turned to its coldest there is no difference in temperature with the A/C on or off. Could the climate control system be what was clicking, it sounded like it was clicking somewhere under and behind the actual A/C switch panel (edit: when I was still getting cold air).

Hey Robert,Thanks for posting this thread,Just an hour ago I put in a new heater valve, checked the heater" clip" and dont get either hot or cold air.Fans run great,I'm thinking heater control now but don't want to spend that kind of $$ unless i'm sure.I'll follow along to see what the guys say...FRED

Heh, yeah A/C problems really **** me off...especially in this Texas heat. I'm leaning towards it being the temperature switch for the A/C...reason being the compressor is engaging and it was working pretty well after the conversion to 134a. If the temperature switch went bad (which I believe is what the clicking noise I had heard was), and if it thought it was cold enough in the cabin...would it reduce the amount of air blowing (reduce actual fan speed) or would it reduce the temperature of the air to balance out (take in more outside air from the fresh air blower). The case here is I am not necessarily getting hot air, just outside air rather than cold air. The flaps seem to be working fine because I can also engage the heater by turning the temp **** all the way to the right...but doing this does not bring as hot of air as enters when turning the defroster on.....Anybody have any thoughts???

No, but if the AC relay went out would it affect not allowing cold air to blow through the vents? The compressor still engages when the AC switch is pressed, and there is still gas/fluid flowing through the sight glass. There just isn't any cold air .

Ugh, I just don't know what all the relay controls. The clicking sounds like a relay with bad contacts that will not latch. But you're probably right.
It is possible that there is a blockage in the system. Do you have gauges that you can use to be sure that the refrigerant is moving through the evaporator? IIRC, the expansion valve is easy to get at on the late models. If you can get to it, touch the expansion valve and evaporator to check that it is cold.
Of course, that wouldn't explain the clicking.

I am leaning towards it being the AC temp switch under the passenger-side of the dash... I'm going to check it out tomorrow morning and see what I can do with it.

I think this part might be what it is...but I won't know until I get down and look at it tomorrow.

Uhmmmm im gonna hit it with a hammer, what other way could there be . Honestly I dunno, I figure something in the switch just went bad as my A/C drain clogged and lots of that stuff got wet.
