I called up a local shop that lots of local guys from here recommended (RPM Racing Inc, for you Long Islanders) and they quotes an PPI at about $100, and w Compression and Leakdown around $200. I was wondering how necessary the leakdown would be. Now, i know $100 might not seem like a big difference, but remember im 18 .. paying for the car and insurance entirely on my own .. so $100 is a lot if it isnt really that important.
So I guess the question is .. should I just do a normal PPI or is it really worth it to get the compress/leakdown test too?

In my opinion, the leakdown is THE most important part. That will really tell you whats going on with the engine, whereas a compression test won't pick up on certain problems. The $100 you spend now may easily save you $3000 later, especially if you rely on others to wrench for you.

i agree. compression will tell you where its wrong, how weak it is etc, leak down will tell you what is wrong. (ie valves, rings, etc). i suggest both.
