Daily driver people - transaxle oil?

thanks.
so disassembly is out. just drain and fill.
now, when i bout the the car from the po, there was a cooler of sometype that wewnt to the tranny and it was leaking, well we took it out and replaced it with hvy guage hose and no leak since then.
is/ are there any long term effects on the tranny in doing this?
so so far mobil1 is the choice? what is it? will it just say gear oil or what?

I have used Redline MT-90 in the 84' NA for ~75k with a change here about 15k ago. The car has almost 190,000 miles on it still shifts pretty good! I noticed a slicker shifting in the cold when I first changed the old stuff out....the notchiness was greatly reduced and when warm it was eliminated.
Best of luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. I'm going to look into Mobil 1 or Swepco. How about long trips in hot temperatures (think South Florida in August)? With a couple of oils I tried in my '83 back in the day, I had to be very careful downshifting from 5th to 4th to not get some grinding after a couple of hours on the freeway in 90+ degree weather; no trace of such problem with other oils.
(For what it's worth, Valvoline semi-synthetic 80w90 was what I ended up with that worked all year round, sub-zero to 95F+, but I just ended up with that because it was on the shelf at Autozone.)
Thanks again,

Gear Oil
FWIW, Iv'e been driving my 84 on a daily basis for just over ten years. The first seven were on Long Island where unless it snowed, I drove it daily. I've used nothing but dino oil, currently Valvoline. My car now has 170k+ miles on it and except for the first couple of 1-2 shifts on a cool morning, my tranny still shifts smooth and runs quiet. I thought about Swepco or some other synthetic but I figure if it aint broke, don't fix it. I know alot of guys might disagree with the use of dino oil but in my real world experience, it works for me. Just thought I'd offer a different perspective.

I use Redline 75W90. The car used to occasionally grind when shifting from 1st to 2nd. So I changed the gear oil and added just a little bit of Rislone (which is a surfactant), drove the car for a few thousand and then changed the gear oil again (this time with no Rislone) and it shifts perfectly.

I never tried any of the Swepco products, but from looking at their website, it appears that their lubricants are not synthetic. They description of the gear oil said it was: "Blended with highly refined pure paraffinic base stock and a high tech additive package, including SWEPCO's proprietary additive, LUBIUM®". No big deal, but I think I'd rather use a synthetic.

Swepco doesn't have synthetic oils. Also to add to the high temps here in Florida never had a problem with that driving hard hours and hours. I wouldn't flush the transmission with anything that is made for flush. If you really want to do it then use ATF it will clean everything out pretty good and it also makes a good safe engine flush at the time of an oil change.
