Hello All,
I was on the freeeway this morning and heard a clunk. When I looked up, I realized that my driver's side mirror was flapping in the wind. I did a search and it appears that the bolt has backed out.
From what I understand, this is a PITA to fix the first time it happens but is easier after that. Has anyone in the L.A. area done this enough to feel comfortable with it? If so, would you be available to help me out while I do it? Thank You!
Sincerely,
j

Not really that hard to fix. Hardest thing will be getting the mirror assembly off the door. If your connectors are still in good shape you disconnect them and then push then pins out of the barrel connector on the car end of the wire. Then unscrew the allen head bolt that holds the base to the door. Then you should have the mirror assembly and the hollow bolt and spring. Insert the bolt and spring through the base and use a really large screwdriver to press and turn the bolt tight. When I did it, I steadied the assembly in a vice, using a towel to protect the paint. Good Luck

Jason, I've done it before when I got rear-ended and knocked the bolt loose. But like Pete says, it's really not hard at all -- just start dismantling every nuts/bolt you see until you get to the neck of the mirror housing.
My connectors were stuck, so I did have to cut them and replace them with new connectors from radio shack, though. That was the only annoying part. To tighten the bolt, I found that a proper tool works the best (12mm triple square) -- but I suppose a vise and a large screwdriver will also suffice.
Drop me a PM if you need help/tools/what not.

Since this is on topic, is there a cure for floppy rear view mirror? I mean the interior rear view mirror. The day/night tab doesnt work, the mirror glass itself flops around. Any fix?

While we are on the subject... how many people out there have a non-functional "left-right" electric mirror. I know mine is broken and you have to adjust it that way by hand.
