Here's one for all you P9201 and Krikit tool experts.
A fellow in another forum is doing the belts without either (yes, I warned him) and here's a pic of what his cam shaft sprocket looks like. It's off about 1mm, and he doesn't know what to do. Your suggestions/advice are appreciated!

Those timing marks look about as close as I have seen. You might tighten the belt a hair, they should come that 1MM closer.
Devon, the red line on the cam sprocket should line up with the red line on the cam gear cover. No they dont come red from the factory.

i think it looks fine, it is impossible to get it PERFECT due to the fact that the belt has teeth, and they have to line up, so you've got a choice of one tooth this way, or one tooth that way, and you're well within the margin of 1 tooth. the tensioner doesn't really affect the alignment.... so not sure what you mean about the tools.

That is fine. They never line up exactly. The balance shafts are harder to line up correctly. One of them is usually a hair off the mark when the other is right on it. Tell him that so he doesn't freak out.
He should at least get a Kricket or take the car to someone who can check the tension. It's not a job on which you want to guess wrong.

Wow, it's much easier to line them up when the aluminum cambelt housing is intact and not missing that particular section.
Make sure you tighten ALL of the little bolts inside there or you get to find out what I mean. One of mine worked loose on the 944 and took a violent ride around that camsprocket. Took out about 5" of aluminum, hacked up both belts, and left thread impressions on the rollers; but didn't break the belt! Had to put that in the "what's good about this" column.

How the hell is he tensioning the belt if he has no prior experience or tensioning tool? Have him look at the rear flywheel inspection cover to check whether the #1 piston TDC mark is lined up with the tab. Chances are he needs to rotate the crank counterclockwise for the mark to line up taking care of the 1mm discrepency.
