Default 1983 is fine on start-up and then dies - thoughts?

My 1983 just started having a peculiar problem which could be any number of things. I am making this post to see if someone might have had an identical issue. The car starts and will run just fine for about 30 seconds until I get to the speed bumps in my parking lot. As the brake is applied, the rpms will shoot down to 0 and the car will stall. I can start the car immediately and drive to the next speed bump at which it will sometimes die again. Once I was able to drive the car over 30 mph, it didn't have any problem until the car had sat and cooled down for an extended length of time (i.e, overnight). Today my girlfriend who was driving the car said it died when she pulled into a parking lot and she let it idle after taking a 30 minute trip - things seem to be getting worse.

The car is stock (including air filter) with the exception of a throttle cam. I only bring this up b/c it is almost as though the engine isn't receiving any gas from the throttle - if I press the accelerator and hold it down when the car's rpms starts to shoot down the car doesn't die. I am thinking it could be a battery cable (based on the speed bump), throttle (based on the way the engine sounds like it is starved), fuel filter or the alternator. I am open to suggestions or a priority list, as I will try to isolate the problem this weekend. Thanks -

Jeremy

Check the vacuum line that attaches to the brake booster- see if it's loose of bad.
