possible 968 purchase
Ok so i was driving and saw this green 968 at a dealer. I went up and asked the guy if it were for sale and how much, but he told me it was a customers car getting fixed. The guy proceeded to tell me it wouldnt go into 2nd because the gear was dirty? He also told me that he knows that the owner is looking to sell it. So i go over to take a closer look at it. It is a 92 with a 6spd with low miles about 70k, it has a odd color exterior not sure what it is almost a teal metalic and a tan interior. This car looks perfect and i am eager to find out what the owner is asking for it, i have to call and ask tomorrow after work. Anyone know what color im talking about is it rare? I will keep you guys posted with more about it when i find out.

More than likely, the color is Amazon Green Metallic. My father has one, and I think it is a beautiful color. The color is somewhat rare, but not extremely, as it was a fairly popular metallic.
Here is a link to my father's car so that you can verify the color:

Good luck, and be sure to let us know about future developments.

Okay, in addition to Amazon Green (which, in some lighting, appears nearly blue) here are the greens offered for Model Year 1992 on the 968: Signal Green and Mint Green. Signal Green is a true bright green and Mint Green is a pastel. If the car is either of those two, YES, indeed, it is very rare! Put it this way, I am a huge 968 fan, and I've never seen either color in pictures, much less in person.
As a side note, there was also a Wimbledon Green offered in 1992, but only for the 911 and its variants.

I found a picture of mint green on a 968 and afraid its not mint green though. At this link you may find it (http://www.968.net/registry/images/ekdahl_anders_00.jpg). Through some searching i found it might be blue(tahoe blue metallic to be exact) not sure though until i check the color code but a tahoe blue metallic may be found at this link (http://www.968.net/registry/images/Nyman_Eric_00.jpg).

Hmm.... Tahoe Blue Metallic? I don't think that is an "official" Porsche color... For MY 1992, the blues available were: Maritime Blue (non-metallic), Horizon Blue Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic (nearly black), and Cobalt Blue Metallic. The car in that picture (lovely color, btw) appears to be Horizon Blue Metallic. At any rate, it is a beautiful color, and I look forward to seeing your pictures soon.
EDIT: after doing a bit of research, I see that Tahoe Blue Metallic is an "official" Porsche color, as I have seen two examples from 1990, both of which were C2s. The Morgan book does not list Tahoe Blue as a color for 1992, nor does my Color Code and Material Sample Supplement for MY 1992 list it as being available. The lovely 968 in that picture must have been special ordered with option code "98", or Paint to Sample. One thing is for sure, Tahoe Blue is a beautiful color!

Since nobody has mentioned it, if the car is having problems with the transmission, it could be the ring and pinion. The 968 6 speed tranny is notorious for having this problem and if I recall, its pretty expensive to fix. Just something to keep in mind before a possible purchase. Good luck!
