Mike the short shift parts go ON the transaxle, so you can keep your stock shifter!

Jeff is still down last I heard. I picked up on the last one from his friend and it is a ez install and shifts very nice. If you can get a 944Racing SS kit do so!

Tip...Hone out the the large bore for the shaft as it will be hard to slide on to the shaft. Safety wire the fasteners without question! My old one was already wired so I did not need to do it but it took 15 minutes to do start/finish. Dal

Is there any longterm ill-effect from using the shorter throw kit as opposed to the stock kit?

You can count me as "highly interested"... The instructions wouldn't pull up so I really don't know what I'm getting into just yet.

Anything that would help my shifter would be great. Going from my 944 to my B&M equipped 6-sp Jetta is night and day! Now to keep on the lookout for that lightened flywheel...

Tools needed- 10mm and 13mm wrenches. Put the car in "N" and prop the shifter up to keep it centered. There are 3 bolts 2-10mm 1-13mm and all reachable. Jack the car up high enough to get at the upper drivers side of the tranny and you will see the linkage where it connects to the tranny (13mm bolt) You will see a rubber boot on the linkage coming from the shift lever in the cabin, pull the boot back to expose the 10mm bolt and remove the bolt. The other 10mm is to the right of the large shaft at about 2 o'clock this has a backing nut on it so a socket is usefull here. When all the bolts are removed slide the linkage back towards the front to free the linkage then pull the oem shifter off the large shaft. Replace in reverse but use Loctite or safety wire on the 10mm bolt on the front link rod (boot)!!! Or it will loosen in time!

If the large shaft is too big for the SSK lightly hone the ID of the SSK till it slides on snug and make certain to line up all bolt indents (one on the lg shaft) to ensure the bolt is hitting the indent and prevent the SSK from slipping on the shaft.

As far as long term use goes I cannot see how it would be harmful. Better than OEM as it shifts so much tighter and less travel. The only harm a tranny gets is from the drivers error in this case.

I might be in. How is this kit compared to other ones? Im not worried about ease of install, but more how it feels and performs and all that jazz...

Edit: And how it performs with the stock shifter...

I really like mine. Much more confident in my shifting. The need for adjustable ones to me are not needed. Mine needed no adjustment. So for the money you can't beat this offer and advise you to do so as this is one of those" rare" more" bang for the buck upgrades"!
