I know. But if we don't let Carl know that there is a market there, there won't be a supplier !

If the price is anything above 3,500 than I doubt anyone will even spend the money on it.

Thanks, guys! I appreciate your comments. I am somewhat of a "graduate" in the school
of short-run custom kits.... If I free up some time, I might give it a go.

You can see what kits/parts we have already debeloped for Porsche here:
www.928motorsports.com

BTW - there are 2 944 items there!

They look great but at 4K, you will not likely find a buyer here as that is probably the average value of an NA.

Well some of us S2 and 68 owners are likely to buy north of $4K, but Matt is right, to capture the main 944 market you need to offer a product in the price range of similar kits for Civics.

I do not understand why supercharger kits for Porsches need to cost more than kits for other cars?

Bruce, I doubt it. I dont think SFR has sold many of their kits for the 968 (I can remember seeing 3) but then you lose the AC which might be why.

What he said!!! Of course it won't sell in the same volume as the civic kits since there are fewer 944s in the world but if the price were less the demand would be greater. At >11:1 I wouldn't want to run much boost and therefore would see less gain from it. Kinda makes it tough to justify the cost but 4-5 lb wouldn't generate enough heat to need an intercooler so a barebones kit at a barebones price would be nice. I don't even care about AC (I've been putting off buying the delete bracket), the SFR kit looked very nice but I think it could have been done for less $.

I don't know guys, some of the supercharger kits for Civics are at least or more than $4000.00. A Vortech kit is about $4500.00 though the Jackson Racing kit does start around $2000.00

And the Jackson kit is usually regarded as the best on the market. More expensive doesnt mean better.

I never said it did. The lowest price Jackson I saw was $2000.00 but they go up in price to about $2400, then to roughly $3500.00. A lot of the turbo kits start around $3000.00

I am not sure the "civic is a bigger market" argument is valid. There are more civics out there, but what percentage of civic owners are looking for more power? I bet there are more 944 owners looking to upgrade their cars than civic owners.

Most of the turbo kits include, manifolds (intake and exhaust), turbo, all piping, BOV, etc. If you consider a set of hard pipes from Lindsey or SFR costs the better part of 400 bucks, 3K for everything seems to be a pretty good deal. I can tell you this much. There are a hell of a lot more "home made" turbo kits for Hondas than there are "store bought" kits. Either way, I think we would both agree that there would not be a huge market (who knows maybe less than 5 people) for a 3K SC kit for a 944.

Well, I'm not sure the percentage of civic owners who want more power is really high, but that doesn't mean there aren't a ****load of them who do. Don't forget for every one 944 owner there are gobs of Civic owners.

Unfortunately you would be wrong. The "tuner" market is made up of 63% Honda vehicles. Sure some are Preludes, S2000s, etc but most are Civics. I just made this presentation the other day, in the past 5 years the "tuner" market has grown from 250 million dollars to 6.5 BILLION dollars. The most often purchased upgrade is wheels and tires. High end engine components is down the list but still makes up about 15% of all the upgrades sold. I would say that you could safely assume there are FAR FAR FAR more Honda owners doing Turbo and SC upgrades than 944 owners. Probably one the order of 1000:1

savage you've inspired me to draw up a design using the mercedes supercharger

the mazda millenia's also had them and they'd be the right size for a porsche

it's wayyy cheaper to drop your engine, sell it, and buy a turbo'ed engine.. so why not do that?
