Default Brake advise for an NA

It's getting time for rotors and pads for my '87 NA. I don't think I want to go the slotted or drilled route on the rotors, but I would like a set that has been treated like the original Porsche rotors I've got. I'm not sure if it's a cad plating of just a good anti-corrosive paint but the original rotors have very little rust on them. Does Porsche do anything special to them? Most 'OEM' sets I've seen have no coating at all. Is there a source besides the dealer?

As for Pads I'm considering the Porterfield Carbon/Kevlars. Anyone have any experience with them?

P.S. My NA is my daily (fair weather) commuter...

I use Zimmermans with DIY painted hubs and metal master pads. All supplied by Paragon.

Both are economical and capable replacements. The Zimmermans are the factory rotors, the metal masters are great pads.

Taping off and coating the rotor hubs with high temp paint will take care of the potential rust problems. You may be able to find a can of zinc coating and spray it on as an alternative.

Please oh please don't be like "that guy" (remember the guy from the VW board) that painted the entire rotors! PAINT THE HUBS (and possibly the edges) ONLY!!!!!!!!!

Steve,

You can pick them up from Paragon. For a dealer source, I'd check with Sunset (www.sunsetimports.com) and see what their pricing is like. AFAIK Paragon sells the factory/OE rotors.

I ran Porterfield carbon/kevlar street compounds on my NA and loved them. Just picked up another set for my 951.

brake pad light? Who uses that? Visually check for pad thickness. If there is none you need brakes.

Another thing the light can tell you is...
Sensor is bad or brake fuild is low.

I was thinking of replacing my front rotors and pads as well. Vertex has an ad in Panorama, they list the rotors for $34 each and the metalmasters for $25.

Has anyone bought and installed these ? Feedback pleeese !!!
