Default hard start

my 90 S2 turns over a few times before it starts up, and in some cases the revs stay so low, it cuts out. But when its running, its GREAT.
i just bought it, coming from an 87 924S. I'm unfamiliar with the 3.0 litre.
any ideas?

Does it turn over really slowly? If it does, starter rebuild time most likely. My car had a very hard time starting, the starter finally quit. Got it rebuilt...

Now it starts in less than a second a lot of the time. Usually just in the morning does it need more than 2 or 3 turn overs.

It might be a fuel pressure issue. Typically, after you shut the engine off, the fuel rail should stay pressurized. If the check valve is bad, the fuel pressure will drop to zero when you shut the car off. When you go back to start the car, it will take a few extra cranks to get the pressure back up. Just one possibility...
