you still haven't answered my question!!! :D

David Salama 08-02-2004 11:37 PM

Peter, Ian, Billy and others,

I will tentatively plan on being at the August 21st Charlotte GTG. I assume it is a 6:30 pm?? I will have to get directions. I will also have to keep my fingers crossed that I don't get called into work, as we have a shortage of personel this month.

My friends are always welcome to play with my toys-- I will bring the GT3 !!

peterjcb 08-02-2004 11:44 PM

David, I'm hosting the GTG at my house on the 21st. Rich is having another GTG on Sept. 18 at his house. If anyone's interested in coming, please send me your email address & I'll send directions and info:

Quick first day comparison to my 951.

I know you all want to know which car is faster, and I don't really have any official data. My seat of the pants impression is that the 951 is faster while on full boost only. The GT3 accumulates incredible speed in no time flat and is so darn solid that you have to look down at the speedometer to realize that your already going way too fast. It is so progressive with the rise in RPMs that it fools you. There is no comparison in the transmission/shifting. 951 is a slow shifter or risk grinding it, the GT3 is silky smooth and fast. Traction goes to the GT3 also, as there is no way I can keep the power down to the ground in the rain like I did with the GT3 today. Turn in goes to the GT3 also. The steering is more sophisticated. Although when I have my track wheels on the 951 with 255mm track rubber in the front and -2.5 degrees negative camber, then the 951 turns in similar to the GT3 on street tires. Instant torque and throttle response goes to the GT3, hands down. Throttle response with the clutch in (matching revs) is similar between the two (I do have the aluminum flywheel in the 951). Driving (seating) comfort goes to the 951. The sport seats where a little overbolstered in th GT3 where your shoulders rest. Both cars have perfect driving positions. Engine sounds great on both cars, but I have to give the award to the GT3 for the totally ridiculous valve train. All I want to do is keep hearing it. Although the sound of the turbo sucking air through the K&N is also exhilarating!! With the GT#, I can stay in gear much longer, whereas in the 951, if I floor it, I must get off the throttle or shift sooner do the the massive boost of acceleration (on the street) -- At the track, I just stay on it !! Some day I will compare track lap times for the most important data.

Just rambling on for now-- more later.

Did he say he drove that beautiful car in the rain??? Sorry, my OCD kicks in when I see a pristine Porsche like yours in the rain.

David Floyd 08-03-2004 12:47 AM

Amazing car Dave, no doubt it will bring much enjoyment.

ian 08-03-2004 09:03 AM

Dave,

Congrats once again on a beautiful car, I'm sure she is going to offer many miles of pure enjoyment. I know what you mean about the sound, I think the sound of the 951 is one of the areas thats I don't enjoy. Sure the Turbo sucking in air adds to the feeling as the car picks up speed. But the NA flat 6 can produce some of the most wonderful noises and falls in a group of my favorite sounding motors....

(Porsche Flat 6, Ferrari V8 / V12, BMW inline 6, VW/Audi VR6 just to name a few)....

But anywho, I can't wait to see her. Great choice.

Will she see much track time? (Will the 951 stay around?)

Glad to hear you are enjoying the car so much. I hate that I can not make the GTG on the 21st, it is my daughters b-day party. Maybe if you make the Sept GTG at Richards you will be past the break in, and we could hear that 6 sing its song at 8000rpm.

MJSpeed 08-03-2004 12:18 PM

David,

Enjoy it in good health!! And BTW the more you drive it the better it becomes!! So get to it ;) !!!

It's funny you say that. When I become a real lawyer (private practice;)) I want to get a 993 turbo. However, I intend to keep the 951 and use the 993 as a daily driver! I wonder what that says about these wonderful waterpumpers (or my sanity!:D)!

Excellent! I was the official "You Suck" guy. I now pass the honor over to you!

Nice, nice, nice car! I'll bet it becomes your track car very soon.
