Kleen Strip Aircraft Remover. Don't get it on your hands, or any part of your body.

Yes I have used it before, it works very well. It does come in a spraycan and in a gallon...hopefully you won't need that much though but it comes in handy when taking a whole car down to the metal. I think Autozone has it IIRC the can is blue with a plane on it.

You could use an angle grinder (the're quite cheap) with a wheel dedicated for paint stripping, although I'm not sure if it won't remove the galvanized layer...

Second on the Klenn Strip, try to mask off the adjacent rubber though, that stuff is very stout. Rub the old paint off with a Scotch 3M pad, a wire brush will leave scratches that will show through your final paint. If the stripper takes it down to what looks like a galvanized finish you will need to use a zinc chromate primer first or wash it well with a 50/50 vinegar/water rinse before painting it without a primer. I don't know if that piece is electro-galvanized or not but you should be able to tell if it's a semi-bright surface. Do not drip any on your paint, it will blister faster than you can find a towel. Don't ask me how I found this little fact out.
