I picked my car up from the mechanic last night. He did the brakes. Seems he also threw in a parking brake lever adjustment! 3 clicks does it now, instead of 6. Very cool. I mentioned my hatch rattle to him as well. When I drove the car home, it was silent back there!? Could he have messed with something that cured the problem--or is it just that when it rains, the hatch expands...stopping the noise till the next sunny day?

Well, it's been only 5 mechanics...but they all have something negative/positive to their credit. This last one is close to my house, and a decent guy--so far, so good.

Andy - it makes sense that adjusting the parking brakes fixed your rattle. Afterall, if the brake shoes are not squeezed tight together (your case) they can rattle.
This is definitely not my case. I put some sealing compound for a temporary fix (it helped), but am planning to remount the whole glass. I prefer to do it now instead of in the middle of winter, when it would take two weeks to cure the glue.

Nah, I know the rattle is/was coming from inside the cabin...brakes making noise is another story! I think putting the car on a lift to do the brakes may have shifted the glass frame a tiny bit--thus eliminating the rattle till the next bump moves the frame back to rattle mode. Not sure though. I do know that when the back isn't rattling, it feels like a better car!
