Another New title: OK! Fixed my starter so there!
Well i tried taking a look inside, this is what i found (unless i did it opening it up not realizing, but I didn't feel anything and the cap basically fell off when i unscrewd it and gave it a tap.. so i dont think i ripped the wire doing that) See the wire I am holding goes from the solonoid, through the grommit and into the starter motor itself. See it is broken off near where I am holding it. And see there is that crack through on the metal piece the wire attaches to... just below the clamp that crimps taht wire? Can I solder the cracked clamp togther there, and solder the wire back on to whats left of it? or am I now in the market for a starter motor?

Hmm.. i need a quick cheap fix for now.. if they have that crimp.. that crimp is connected ot that piece that cracked off just below the wire stub there.. so the kit would include all that? grr. i think im just toing to make a last ditch effort and just try soldering it and slapping it back on.

yikes...
Yieldsign i think you solder what you mentioned up there. If you cant get a rebuild kit and you can find that gauge wire (Home Depot or Lowe's may have) you can solder it on. Be sure and wrap that wire up with electrical tape or something afterwards so the elements don't corrode it more.

Some years back, a fellow in the E-Mail lists posted about a mysterious garage accident that he just couldn't figure out. It had us all stumped for a day or so, until a post by one of the electrical gurus that frequents the list hinted at the cause.
Basically, the guy woke up one morning only to find that his parked car had driven straight into the garage wall overnight. As I recall, the damage was minor, but he had some bumper and lighting issues, to say the least.
As it turns out, the starter had malfunctioned and gotten enough juice from the battery to ram the car into the wall. For this and other reasons, I don't think a temporary repair on the starter is a good idea.

Sorry your so far away, i have a couple laying aroung (see there is an up side to V8 conversions) I believe they are the same as 924 2.0 as I have one of those also and it looks pretty much the same (it may not be a 924 one as I have had so much junk laying around lately). I'd offer to post but the postage would probably cost as much as another one. Most posters in your area seem to list 20 or so cars in there sig, I'm sure one could lend you one for a quick fix or can they all be driven at the same time if you get desperate let me know but I'm sure someone here can help you before it gets to that.

If you end up needing a used starter. I have a rebuilt unit that had 8k on it when I took it off of the car. Let me know, I can get it out quick if need.

HAH! My dads soldering worked perfect.. it was real strong when i was putting it back togehter (i din't rebreak it) and i just put it in in the dark with a flashlight and it starts up great, took it for a hard ride.. and it still starts great. starts better than it ever did, it was always a bit sluggish on teh first turn or two.. now it's real quick....
Took my dad about 30 min of soldering.. but hey. It works! Thanks for the encouragement though guys.... not!
