Default What is this? Low Pressure A/C charge nipple?

I'm looking for the low pressure A/C nipple to top off my A/C system. I've searched the forums, but can't find an answer to exactly where this is. I found the high pressure nipple which i believe is on the small line by the drivers side shock tower. Can anyone please tell me if the item i'm pointing at in the pic is the low side in which i should charge the ac system? The tube snakes up from below and has a light blue plastic cap on it with a metal clamp holding it on. thanks alot 87 951

No, that's a test port. The low side port is on the compressor on an 87. Follow the larger of the two lines on the strut tower to the compressor. the larger of the two lines is the low side. Is will also be marked with an "S" for suction and the high side will be marked "D" for discharge.

The AC port will most likely have a screw off cap with a schraeder valve underneath (like a tire valve).

Here's a pic from an 84 with low side port marked on the compressor. Yours should be similar:

Yes. The AC Compressor is under the altenator. If you put your head under the car & move it back about 1' from the nose of the car & just inside the drivers side edge of the black undertray, and look up, you'll be staring the compressor in the face. The easiest way to get to it is to remove the large black belly pan, and follow the wider of the two belts you see & the pulley on the bottom nearest the drivers side is the AC Compressor.

thanks for the pics guys. i guess it would have been too easy to have the low side input somewhere accessable from the top of the car.

On the '86 951, the nipple is on the hose up by the strut-tower... They took out a lot of good tidbits in going to the '87...

They switched the locations. The earlier cars had the low pressure by the shock tower, but in later years they reversed the low and high pressure ones so that the high pressure is on the shock tower and the low pressure is right with the compressor.

Makes it a real pain in the *** to get under there to the nozzle, but fortunately its something you shouldn't have to do more than once every few years.

The '86 951 had both the low & high-pressure valves on the strut-tower...

MY '86 951 has both hi and low fittings on the driver side shock tower. My '87 NA has the hi side at the shock tower and the low side at the rear of the compressor.

On early cars (I used to have an '84) the low side fitting is at the front of the compressor and the high side fitting was in front of the reciever/dryer.

BTW: Where in NC are you?

For Carl Nall: I thought I was a clean freak, but I have NEVER seen an undercarriage as sharp as yours! Good job!

I just used A/C Pro to recharge my air after it had been retrofitted with R134. Hope this helps:
Using the diagram provided by Scootin159 above to locate the A/C compressor...

It literally takes 10 minutes to use this product and recharge your A/C system

Were you able to get the AC Pro nozzle over the LP nipple? Looks like a close fit.
