On the 968 Turbo's the half shafts were upgraded to handle the extra power and torque, just for everyone's info. So that picture doesn't surprise me...From what i have been told and seen the larger 968 Turbo ones are similar to a set from a 911...

Oh yes they also did some 'strengthening' to the gears to handle the extra power on the 6spd.

Larger diameter hollow half-shafts would solve this problem, and weigh less too. The Corvette aluminium ones are about 2.5" in diameter and really thin. Weighs about 1/2 of what ours do.

, maybe I should clarify something, I am on a serious budget, most spend more on there wheels than I have spent on the WHOLE car, I have 1 seat because 2 would mean twice the cost, so far I have snapped 2 shafts and I can buy them all day long for £10-15 and have caaumilated some spare shafts, the next part of the drive line to snap would probably be to box, so I'm more than happy to sacrifice a few shafts for the good of the box, I can change then with just a creeper board and someone pushing the car as I undo/redo the bolts. I do take the CV joints apart and put the bearings in a tumbler overnight help harden them, a good clean up and new grease seems to ensure that are in good condition. Hollow shafts would be perfect but it may then transmit enough force to regularly kill the rear end, and the cost would put me on the stands instead of on the start line. My race car is probably my most expensive car and so far I have totalled about £2000 on it (not inc NOS refills and fuel) admittedly the fact it had 1/2 leather interior with no rips helped the fact it regained me some nmoney back (it also has an early black dash that has no cracks whatsoever in it, but I couldn't afford to buy a cheap one so I had to drill through it for fittment of my cage ) maybe now I no longer have my lathe and mill I will look into this but I would rather put my money back into replacing some tooling I had to leave behind in the UK.
I am surprised ow many different expieriences people have of these box's, however all in consideration I guess, not many would drive there 20 year old cars as spirited as most 924/944 owners, most would also not think twice to taking a 20 year old runabout to wall mart of Mr Lube for some 16 year old to change the oil and filters for $25 so it either get neglected or done sparingly as once you have crawled under there and failed to undo the fill up bolt (the ONLY good thing about the auto box is that you don't need to and they should have thpught about the same design filler for all models) you are never in a hurry to do it again.
