In theory. They are not much of a muffler though.

On a side note -- if anyone here puts a cherry bomb on a Porsche I will personally come to your doorstep, slap you silly, then take your car (because you obviously don't deserve it).

Please, for the love of everything out of Stuttgart, DO NOT cherry bomb your P-car.

Yeah, and after Matt's done with you, I'll come over and kick you in the nuts!!!

The cherry bomb is actually a larger version of the resonance tips you see on the ricers. It has internal louvres which really causes a lot of turbulence and restricts air-flow through the muffer. Better to get a straight-through muffler with flush innards. Even then, the pressure differentials at the ends cause some restriction as well. Best to go with just a straight pipe all the way through.

HMMM, I might just get one of those then and throw the Flowmasters, Cherrybomb's of old were straight through, unless they have changed??

Well, they're straight-through, but the sides are anything but smooth. The little salloped louvres stick into the air-flow about 0.25" all around. The turbulence this creates basically necks down the flow to the equivalent of a tube that's at least 1" smaller. So to really work with a 3" straight -through exhaust, you'd need a cherry-bome of at least 4" ID. While this may reduce the backpressure due to the turbulence, you will never recover the loss in velocity.

so... no one else is thinking of john mellencamps 'cherry bomb'?

anyhow i have a flowmaster on my car... it's definitely louder than stock, but not rice. sometimes i get tired of it and put the stock muffler back on, but lately i've been in a mood - so i'm liking the noise right now. i'm thinking about putting my cat back on too.

You probably can't go wrong with either a Magnaflow or a Borla.

I have a Magnaflow on my Audi, and I like it. I haven't yet decided whether to do anything with my stock S2's exhaust.

I put a Magnaflow on my S and it works great. Nice low tone not real loud until you get on it.
