Default Thumbs up for Boltdepot.com ...

As usual ... no offiliation..
Ordered some ($70 worth) hardware on saturday, it arrived today via 2nd day air.

Online ordering system is great, everything was packaged nicely and seem to be priced reasonably.

Nice site. Autozone never carries the big stuff. Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah, I love them too. We buy 95% of our hardware from them. They're at least 50% cheaper than any one locally, usually more....

Those hardware assortment kits look good, but don't forget that Paragon has a great $45 Metric hardware assortment - an incredible deal at http://www.paragon-products.com/product_p/mhk.htm

Christian,

Finally coming together...hope to have crank/rods & pistons back in by end of this weekend. Then oilpump, waterpump, tensioner, rollers, headstuds & head...etc

John,
They are the same grade or stronger (factory for most places IIRC is 8.8 and I ordered 10.9 for a few places). As for finish...they are standard silver if 8.8 and a yellowish zinc coat if 10.9 (most of them, some are still standard silver). The standard silver are still zinc coated, though.

More info on strengths/grades here... http://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-in...Properties.htm

The paragon kit is nice, I wish I knew exactly what it included though. For my purposes I think I was better off ordering specific parts (like I did from boltdepot)...but before I decided on doing the rebuild I was going to pick up that hardware assortment.

Glad its not old news to most of you guys... I found it with the power of google.

Ken, How's the broken porsches coming along? I'm hoping to need that engine hoist within the next 3-4 weeks. (hoping).

Not great. The shortblock I picked up for the 83 won't work as the bores are too worn out. I've got to find another one that might work. The Turbo is awaiting the 3-pc crossmember(check the group buy thread for pricing, it's good). Once that's on, I'll tackle the low oil pressure problem. So pretty much, I'm nowhere. I've been waiting until I pay off the last round of repairs, which should be next week, before I start spending more money. It looks like this season is going to be a total loss.

FWIW, Cadmiun plated bolts are what is needed when attaching to aluminum. Cad has a lower potential for galvanic corrosion. It is yellow as well as the zinc/yellow chromate finish on fasteners (likely what boltdepot is selling), so it is easy to confuse the two. I am always surprised at how easy I can remove nuts and bolts from my '89, and it is because Porsche does not compromise on fastener quality, in materials or plating.
