Default Clutch

well while on vacation canada day weekend, I stayed overnight at a hotel. in the morning I packed up and started the car..put my foot on the clutch and "snap" the spring shot it right to the floor...I grabbed it with my toe and pulled up..."snap!" Great, no clutch I thought...an easy 2800 dollar clutch job coming up.. so I pushed it into gear with the ignition off..then turned the key..and drove in first across the road to Midas...got a call friday to say that it wasn't the clutch it was the "master Cylinder" or slave cylinder? anyways $555.00 he said it'll be as good as new..I don't have time to waste without my ride so i said do it just get her running.

so now that it's a done deal, it that a good price? anyone else do this before? heck i dunno where the Master cylinder is but I do have anemies and wondered if it was sabotage. is this part accessible to sabotage, when I have an alarm on and the assuming they couldn't jack the car up?

Jeremy.

The master cylinder is under the hood, right on the firewall by the brake booster. The slave is right above the starter, pretty hard to get to with the starter in the way.

the slave cylinder isnt to bad to do by yourself but in my case the bolt holding it to the bellhousing snapped so it took about 5-6 hours because of the limited space to drill out the bolt.

Jeremy, I think $555 is a bit steep but considering your situation its probably fair market value. Our cars are pretty easy to work on and parts source isn't bad either. check out Whaletail in Milton and Porshapart, both on the net. Frank at Porshapart is really helpful and has lots of parts, including various little plastic clips. They are in the Northwest of the city close to Brampton/Mississauga.

Jeremy,

Not likely sabotage unless they know a lot about your car. This is a common failure.

Good Luck.
